国庆节

Chinese National Day is on the first day of October, which is an annual public holiday celebrated in the People’s Republic of China. Reviewing the contemporary history of China, we learn that Chinese people suffered a lot. China was one of the poorest countries in the world, and over a hundred years' invasion war and the civil war made the Chinese people undergo famine and exploitation. On 1st Oct. 1949, Chairman Mao declared “THE Chinese people have arisen” from atop the Forbidden City's Gate of Heavenly Peace— it is not only the victory of the revolution but the founding of the People’s Republic of China. This historic date marked the birth of New China, and it is also known as “Chinese Independence Day”. Even though the declaration was made on 1st Oct. 1949, the decision of designating this day as the National Day wasn’t made until three months later. The yearly celebration was started in 1950.

国庆节是十月一号，是中华人民共和国每年庆祝的公共假日。回顾中国的当代历史，我们了解到，中国人民遭受了很多苦难。中国曾是世界上最贫穷的国家之一，一百多年的侵略战争和内战使中国人民经历了饥荒和剥削。1949年10月1日，毛主席在紫禁城的天安门上宣布 "中国人民站起来了"--这不仅是革命的胜利，而且是中华人民共和国的成立。这个历史性的日子标志着新中国的诞生，它也被称为 "中国独立日"。尽管宣言是在1949年10月1日发表的，但直到三个月后才决定将这一天定为国庆节。每年的庆祝活动是从1950年开始的。

I guess some people may think the military parade is held every year on National Day, but it is not true. It was held every year from 1950 to 1959 and then in 1984. Since 1999 it was held every ten years. A military parade holds a role for propaganda purposes, and it is used to exhibit the apparent military strength of a country. It also boosts national confidence and enhances cohesion. Apart from military parades, there are also other ways of celebrations including the golden week holiday, putting up national flags and red lanterns, and raising the national flag. Watching the flag-raising ceremony on Tiananmen Square is a dream for many Chinese people. It is a way to show our love to the motherland. The National Day gala is another important activity for many public institutes, enterprises, and schools. Songs, dances, and poetry about patriotism are usually performed.

也许有人认为每年国庆节都会举行阅兵式，但事实并非如此。从1950年到1959年，每年都举行了阅兵式，然后是1984年。自1999年起，每十年举行一次。阅兵式具有宣传的作用，它被用来展示一个国家的表面军事力量。它还能增强国家信心，提高凝聚力。除了阅兵，还有其他庆祝方式，包括黄金周假期，挂国旗和红灯笼，以及升国旗。在天安门广场观看升旗仪式是许多中国人的梦想。这是表达我们对祖国的热爱的一种方式。国庆节晚会是许多公共机构、企业和学校的另一项重要活动。通常会表演有关爱国主义的歌曲、舞蹈和诗歌。
