neither 发音[?na?e?(r)] 或 [?ni:e?(r)]，是一个词性丰富的单词，可以作代词，副词，连词或形容词。

一、neither 作代词，意为“两者都不”，表示全部否定，其反意词是 both（俩个都）；作主语时，谓语动词一般用单数形式，此时，可与介词 of 连接，构成 neither of + 名词/代词宾格结构，也可单独做主语，例如：

1、neither 单独作主语，例如：

1、当连接的两个并列主语都为单数形式，那么谓语动词用单数，例如：

西蒙和加里都没有照他们说的做。

2、当连接的两个并列主语中至少有一个是复数形式，那么谓语动词用复数，例如：
Neither the lawyer nor the detectives are able to follow the sequence of events.律师和侦探都无法跟踪事件的顺序。

五、使用 neither 容易犯的错误
1、当在讨论两个人或物时，要使用 neither，不使用 none，例如：
书籍和电视是不同的。两者都不应该取代另一个。
正：Books and television are different. Neither of them should replace the other.
误：Books and television are different. None of them should replace the other.
2、不能使用 both (of) + not to 对两个人或是两件事作否定陈述，例如：
这两件衬衫都还没干。
正：Neither of these shirts is/are dry yet.
误：Both of these shirts aren't dry yet.
